Academic credits
|
Our
partner school has been fully accredited by the Department of Education of
Mexico since 1977. Academic standards are high at our affiliate school and
certificates are issued so participants are able to receive credit or credit
equivalency through placement exams upon return to their home, College or
University (however those who wish to receive credit should check with their
school academic counselor regarding transfer of credits).
Our affiliate
institute grants six credit hours for 120 hours of group contact classroom
instruction or 80 hours of private instruction. This is the equivalent of one
credit hour per 20 hours of group classes for the introductory course. The
intermediate and advanced group classes are taught at an accelerated rate
because of the immersion environment, and students receive six credits hours for
80 hours of group contact classroom instruction or 53 hours of private
instruction.

Extra-curricular activities included
 |
Students
are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of cultural
activities free of charge at our partner Institute, either in the
historical downtown area, around the city of Guadalajara and even
in their "own home" (homestay program).
A
language and cultural exchange group has been formed. It is made
up of students studying English and Spanish, and they take turns
practicing their language and sharing their culture every day at
5:15p.m. No extra charge.
Salsa
reflects the joy and abandon of the tropical days – a major
reason why this social activity is so popular among students
traveling to this location. Since all skill levels run in parallel
during the class, students do not have to attend consecutive
lessons. Students practice the Spanish Language as they mingle and
enjoy the fun every Friday at 6:15 p.m. and Saturdays at 2:00 p.m.
No extra charge.
Karaoke
Club - Students gather at the school auditorium for an evening
where they enjoy singing, practicing language or merely chatting
while listening to tunes such as Cielito Lindo, Besame Mucho,
Guadalajara and many of those memorable songs that have made
Guadalajaran (Tapatío) singers and authors representative legends
of the most traditional Mexican Folk songs. This event is
conducted by a professional music instructor. Every Wednesday
evening at 7:15 p.m. and Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. No extra charge.
As part of the group courses, teachers take the students on a walking
tour every Wednesday. The students learn the cultural
significance of each site. This is also an excellent way to
practice your Spanish in a real life setting.
Our
affiliate school also offers students free guitar lessons. These
lessons are conducted at their facilities in the evenings, two days per
week. Students must either bring their own guitar or rent one in the
city. Lessons consist of many of the most traditional Mexican ballads
and songs. No extra charge.

The
homestay program gives students the opportunity to learn to prepare
traditional Mexican meals for lunch while in their home on
Monday's. Once the students choose the dish to make from the onsite
Mexican recipe guide, the host family will provide them with the
ingredients, support, encouragement and warmth to help them make a
traditional feast.
