Alvarez & Borges  Spanish Schools
social-cultural activities are organized by a young tour guide with vast experience in guiding groups. The tours can be considered useful not only to get to know the city of Buenos Aires, but also as another aspect of the communicative situation in which the students can put into practice the skills acquired in classes and widen their vocabulary.

San Telmo

San Telmo is Buenos Aires´ oldest neighborhood. A walk along its streets will reveal the historical heritage from colonial times up to the beginning of the 20th century. How did our customs evolve? Which were yesterday´s styles? You will learn to distinguish styles and discover the changes. You will be able to visit antique shops and the famous market at Dorrego Plaza, the historical heart of the neighborhood. San Telmo, historical patrimony of the city, is where most of the "tanguerías" (Tango Restaurants/bars) and "casonas" (old-fashioned restaurants) from last century, can be found.

La Boca

Did you know that Argentina is a country that has grown demographically due to important migratory flows in the 19th century? The neighborhood of "La Boca" was built abound the first harbor of the city of Buenos Aires. Many of the Italian immigrants settled near the docks between 1880 and 1930.
The history of this recent past is at plain sight in the streets of La Boca, in the color of its houses, in its museums and also in the Boca Juniors soccer stadium, one of the most popular teams of Argentina

Yesterday and today

Argentina and the immigration are closely related. The neighborhood of Retiro is clear proof of this. The harbor, the railroad and the old Immigrants Hotel which are in the area will help us explain why they are such an important part of our history. We can also explain what the city was like in the 18th century and from the San Martin Plaza, help you imagine the open field that was there until the middle of the 19th century and find out why the army´s soldiers trained there. Today this Plaza also preserves the memory of the most recent history in the commemorative monument to the War of Malvinas.

Palermo chico French architecture in Buenos
Aires

Did you know that Argentina was a very rich country at the beginning of the 20th century? You will find out through the splendid residences of this neighborhood, the way of life of the aristocracy of Buenos Aires with fortunes based on the exploitation of the field. In the neighborhood of Palermo Chico you will observe how the French architecture gradually replaced the colonial Spanish past. We will explain why these mansions of the Argentine elite are today headquarters of embassies and consular representations.

Maradona and Boca Junior
A "love story"
Surely you know them: Diego Armando Maradona, the most famous soccer player of Argentina and Boca, the most popular soccer team in this country.
They signify together a great sport passion. This story can be found in the Soccer Museum related with the historic, social and political development of Argentina and the world. Did you know that the Boca stadium is called "La Bombonera" (The Chocolate box)? We will explain this as well.

Recoleta
Art, history and leisure: Recoleta offers all of this and much more. It is the place where young people meet. In the residential neighborhood of Recoleta is the Church of Our Lady of Pilar ("Nuestra Señora del Pilar"), a splendid and rare example of colonial architecture. The former cloisters of the convent are today a museum and cultural center. Craftsmen and street artists gather in the square. In the landscape of the neighborhood the museums of art coexist with the most sophisticated restaurants, cafés and discos.

Tango Circuit
Tango, its music and its dance, is known today around the world. Yes, tango is a part of the city of Buenos Aires. In its origin it was danced in the brothels of the poor neighbourhoods because it was considered to be scandalous. But little by little it gained a space in the ballrooms of the centre of the city reaching the most elegant neighbourhoods. The tango circuit will help you discover a story that is written in the streets of our city.
* Optional : Students will be able to attend a Dinner Tango Show.
